Such a relief for us and an impressive piece of kit!
We initially bought the smaller version of the sureflap cat door, having done our research and noted all of the reviews available, as well as a thorough trawl through Sureflap's site. It's rare a product gets so many consistently good reviews, so we were impressed enough to shell out what does initially appear to be a lot of money for what is, essentially, a cat flap. However, it's no ordinary flap!
Unfortunately, the initial flap we bought was too small for our cat, who is 5.4kg (around 12lbs in old money). I think this is very much a matter of how your cat's weight is distributed as to whether or not it will suit a larger cat - some cats have denser fur, some can squeeze themselves through quite tight places, some dislike too narrow an access point, but if in doubt, I'd suggest going with the larger flap if you have a biggish cat.
We donated our smaller sureflap door to a neighbour, who was exceedingly grateful, as both our cat and theirs are being bullied by...
Fantastic, best on the Market by far
We originally purchased the standard small version from our local pet shop. We wanted to replace our old 'Cat Mate' magnetic one with a microchip version as our old moggy had become allergic to her collar and she was already micro chipped. The standard version of the SureFlap has a small flap (142mm (W) x 137mm (H)) compared to our 'Cat Mate' one we were replacing, I'm sure small or younger cats would manage it OK but our cat is use to a large flap and she is not quite as agile as she used to be and probably would not have been able to manage a smaller flap. We returned it to the pet shop and exchanged it for this new larger version (SureFlap Microchip Pet Door (opening 178mm (w) x 170mm (h)) which has just been released on to the market (Nov 2012). Although the larger version retails at
