Chapelwood Squirrel Blocking Cage, 12 Inch

Cage for bird feeder
I bought this to stop the jackdaws, the bully boys of the garden, taking all the fatballs and denying the smaller birds - and it worked! It hasn't stoped them trying - they are very intelligent birds but this has got the better of them. It has taken a few months for the sparrows to try it out but now in there nearly all the time as are the other small birds. Ideally you need the bird feeder to be the same length as the cage so the handle of the feeder easily pokes through the slot at the top as this is what you will need to hang it from the branch. Because of the size and shape of cage, you will need to find a suitable branch to hand it from or a specialist stand designed for holding bird feeders. The cage itself is fairly heavy, and combined with a feeder full of food, will need a sturdy branch or something suitable to be able to hold it. The jackdaws in my garden have worked out that by knocking a bird feeder will either drop to the ground or spill its contents - this cage prevents...
Excellent addition!
I bought one of these for a Chapelwood heavy duty fat ball feeder. Fits perfectly on the 12" feeder. It took the small birds no time at all to figure out that they could get in and out. The baffled looks from the starlings was great! A couple of things to note. The cage adds a fair bit of weight to the feeder, which is already substancial. There is a screw with a hook on it taped to the plastic bag. This is needed to secure the feeder to the cage. Great piece of kit, will be buying more for my other feeders!
Squirrel Blocking cage
At last a cage which covers the feeder with a dish attached. The squirrels are extremly clever at finding a way in or knawing through cages, this one stops both. However as it fits over the feeders hook it then will slide so the squirrels can grab the dish nearer to them, so I have used some garden rubber coated twine to stop that. When filling the feeder I have to undo the cage while it is still hanging and find that a little tricky. On the whole a good buy and I have ordered another one.
