Never had problems
Had this filter a while now in my 30 liter tank with 2gold fish and is works very well. My tank is a lot cleaner than our neighbors (not boasting :) ) and as the other comment says all you need to do is clean the filter every month as opposed to buying new ones (although they will still need to be replaced eventually). Not sure why the other person experienced the problems they did, I keep mine about 1cm under the water and have never had fish gasping for air. It is also very quiet.
Effective filter at reasonable price
I use this in my 28 litre tank and it appears to be doing a good job. Minimal running costs as the filter material does not need to be replaced on a monthly basis - only needs to be cleaned. Perhaps on the bulky side for a really small tank but that is my only criticism.
Great little filter, and works for bowl too.
I have had a fish bowl, ca 30 litres, which had a filter/air pump, this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Interpet-0620-Goldfish-Bowl-Filter/dp/B0025U3OGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343122013&sr=8-1
It was awful, we have had so many casualties, and none of the fish shops we went to explained the dead fish were due to the filter being rubbish. So, we finally cottoned on after doing some research, and bought the Fluval mini filter, and it made a difference within one hour. It works in the fishbowl (you don't need a rectangular tank), as you can lie it flat on the gravel. It creates a bit of a current, which they seem to like, and it is totally quiet. This was important to me, as I can't stand buzzy noises, but I cannot hear it at all. I turned it on outside of the tank first to check, but that was really noisy, so don't get fooled by that! It will go quiet in the water.
It filters the water crystal clear, and the current "blows" up some of the dirt from the gravel, so all...
